Spring in zoo
In early spring, the island is cold and windy.
The zoo is quiet—an illusion of emptiness. A construction site rumbles.
We walk. And walk.
And then, a camel stares at us.
We study the engineering of the enclosures—strings, nets, bars—and ask why.
Wild and zoo ravens exchange food through the net.
Spring progresses.
Visits for school groups are free until the end of April.
Mittens in neat lines on the bathroom floor.
Children imitate the postures of geese.
We find the first goose nest of the year.
Now we stay on one place.
Common gulls watch us and approach.
Suddenly, we seem to be the attraction at the zoo.
