People just give up

People have forgotten how this world has been like for example 50 years ago. When you talk about it, people might perhaps remember those past things and then wake up to realize that all of it has been lost. That nobody even noticed before it all was gone. Nobody had the time to do anything about it. So then you easily slip into a kind of apathy.

I remember reading a comment section in Helsingin Sanomat where someone wrote about some issue related to protecting forests that there is nothing worth protecting in Finland. So, every single forest in Finland, it’s just brushwood, there’s nothing deserving of protection here. I remember someone commenting on that like, well, that’s it. No wonder they are brushwood when they have just been left as brushwood. Those remains of forests.

So, people just give up, which I think is totally okay. Because on the other hand, this biodiversity loss is an impossible issue to do anything about, as an individual. For example carbon footprint, of course you might diminish it as much as you can and are able to, and that's kind of easy, you know. But then again, something like going there and tying and chaining yourself to a tree when someone is coming to cut it down, well, that’s not possible for everyone. Not everyone has the courage for that, or not every life situation allows you to commit to that kind of thing. So, that’s why I think it’s totally clear why emotions go from anger to that kind of apathy. To a kind of deliberate unawareness.
